BYD Signs Investment Agreement with Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has signed a Investment Agreement with the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT) of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The Agreement supports BYD’s joint venture with Uzavtosanoat JSC (UzAuto) in NEV manufacturing.

The joint venture company "BYD Uzbekistan Factory" was established by BYD and UzAuto in December 2022, dedicated to the production of new energy vehicles under the BYD brand and related automobile parts. Production will commence in Jizzakh in 2024, starting with two best-selling BYD PHEV models, the BYD CHAZOR and the BYD SONG PLUS DM-i.

Under the agreement, the parties agreed to organise the full production cycle of BYD cars in Uzbekistan, including the welding, painting and assembly processes. In addition, the joint venture will invest in emplyoees’ skills and knowledge improvement. The agreement also provides the joint venture the right to export BYD vehicles that are manufactured in Uzbekistan, to Central Asian countries.

The signing ceremony took place on 26th September at the MIIT in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent led by Jamshid Abduxakimovich Khojaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, with Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, Michael Shu, Managing Director of BYD Europe and Ivan Cao, Deputy General Director of BYD Central Asia LLC.

It marks an exciting new chapter of electric car innovation in Uzbekistan, a country where the government is actively promoting green and low-carbon transformation, recognising the advantages of new energy vehicles to reduce emissions and become less dependent on traditional energy resources.

BYD introduced its new energy passenger cars to consumers in Uzbekistan in March 2023, in a debut range that premiered 3 models.The BYD CHAZOR (a streamlined compact sedan) and the BYD SONG PLUS DM-i (C-segment SUV) both benefit from BYD’s super hybrid technologies, delivering extensive range and ultra-low fuel consumption. The third model is the BYD HAN, a full-electric flagship executive sedan. Since the launch, BYD has delivered more than 5,000 vehicles to customers in Uzbekistan and opened 7 official sales and service centers in Uzbekistan.
